Eva Ados joins CNBC Powerlunch to discuss Docusign, General Mills and Regeneron

Joel Shulman joins Mornings with Maria on Fox Business. He discusses rising inflation levels but notes that recent announcements have simply created a "textbook" shift up in the yield curve of approximately 20 to 25 basis points across the entire curve. The yield curve is still inverted but the appearance is otherwise the same. He believes that the markets have adjusted to the notion that we will likely incur three rate hikes this year (rather than the prior thinking of 2 rate hikes) and end up with a final destination of approximately 5.50% overall for the Fed Funds rate (currently 4.75%). He notes that many companies are still beating earnings expectations such as Salesforce, Nvdia, and Okta (among the three top weights of EntrepreneurShares ETF: ENTR) which have helped propel it to the top ranking for the past three months among US Large Cap Growth Funds (Note: past performance is no guide to future returns). He ends with comments that he believes that once shelter rises start to subside in CPI (usually a 12-month lag) inflation will also subside with less volatility in the Markets. He expects by mid-year (2023) the inflation outlook will become more subdued with Markets potentially ending the year with the same rally that began the year.

Inflation is over. The most recent CPI that came in shows a decrease of -0.1%, however that includes an inflated housing statistic. The true housing data tell a very different story.

CPI from November's readings demonstrate that inflation is dead. In fact, after removing stale housing data (which implies housing rising by 7% annually), CPI is actually negative. Further, if one applies the current housing data from the Case-Shiller index (which suggests housing is dropping by 8 to 10% on an annual basis), it appears that "true" inflation might actually be even more negative. Yet, despite the Federal Reserve's best attempts to implement significant interest rate hikes, slow the economy and increase the unemployment rate, recent unemployment statistics show that more jobs were created thus dropping the unemployment rate from 3.7% to 3.5%). Notably, many tech companies have been firing hundreds of thousands of workers, though presumably many/most are foreign H1B workers who do not appear in official statistics. Further, 80m aging baby boomers, with 4.3m eligible for retirement each year, suggests that unemployment rates might continue to be low for many years to come. Markets seem to be rallying in early January, likely due to reduced inflation expectations. Entrepreneurial companies, in particular, seem to be strong at the present time. It will be interesting to see where the Federal Reserve decides to focus their energy next. They may decide to continue their rate hikes, but there is certainly no need based on all the available evidence.
